IS YOUR CONTRACTOR LICENSED?

Hiring a licensed contractor is a protection. A license ensures the contractor is qualified to perform your work in a safe, competent, and professional manner.

The oversight of the State Contractor License Board provides a way for consumers to file complaints and concerns regarding a contractor. The license board also allows clients to view a contractor’s status, classifications, and view any formal complaints.

Why does this matter?

An unlicensed contractor will not be knowledgeable on the latest building codes. Meaning your project will not be able to receive permits, nor will it pass inspections. The building will potentially be unsafe with no way of knowing. Your project will also be at risk of being shut down. The California License Board has created a strike team with support of local municipalities to arrest unlicensed contractors, stopping work on potentially dangerous projects. While this team is meant to halt unsafe work, it can leave you as a client with a partially completed project and no contractor.

All of this doom and gloom is not without a silver lining!

Using a licensed contractor is not difficult nor more expensive than unlicensed worker. Licensed contractors are held to a high standard of ethics and quality. They must retain insurances and bonds for work; most generally offer warranties on work as well. This all serves your interests as a consumer.

Protect your safety, protect your finances, and protect your future; hire only licensed contractors!
