3 Ways To Brighten Up Your Home’s Interior

One of the best ways to make your home feel bigger and more inviting is to brighten up your space with more light. However, adding more windows usually isn’t something that’s easy to do. Because of this, you may need to get creative when it comes to letting in more light to the rooms of your home.

To help you in doing this, here are three ways you can brighten up your home’s interior.

Make The Most of Your Windows

Since you can’t easily add more windows to your home, it’s important that you make the most of the windows you do have.

According to Katelin Hill, a contributor to, you should be cleaning your windows on a regular basis to allow the most uninhibited light to shine through the panes. Simple cleaners can be very effective for this, so don’t worry about spending a lot of money on something that may end up leaving streaks or smudge marks.

While putting in more windows is often structurally- or cost-prohibitive, you could opt for replacing some of your exterior doors with glass doors. By doing this, you can use the opening that you already have and simply put a new door in its place. The amount of natural light that will be able to enter into your home will be much greater than what was coming in through a solid door.

Bring In Something That Sparkles

Along with trying to get as much natural light into your space as possible, you can also play with the light that you already have by implementing items that catch that light and throw it around the room.

Some items that do this very well, according to Sara Elliott, a contributor to How Stuff Works, are crystal, glass, and mirrors. Additionally, any shiny item that catches light can help make your room look and feel brighter by playing with the light that’s already there and reflecting it back into other sections of the room.

Go With White

The actual colors of your rooms can have a big impact on how bright or light space is. Knowing this, you’ll want to be careful about what colors you paint with or use to decorate your spaces that you’re wanting to feel brighter.

Ideally, Hadley Mendelsohn, a contributor to, recommends that you use white wherever you can in a darker space. From the walls to the textiles and even floors, putting more white in space will automatically brighten it up.

If the interior of your home isn’t as bright or as light as you’d like it to be, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you bring some life and sunshine into your space.
