4 Tips For Living In a Small Apartment

If you live in a big city or you’re just moving into your first place, chances are that you live in a small home. Regardless of whatever the reason is for you living in less than large quarters, it can be frustrating to find space for all of your things.

The good news is that there are plenty of tips for making it work. Just because you have a lack of floor space doesn’t mean you can’t find creative ways to make living in a small space more comfortable. Here are some of the best tips for maximizing a tiny living apartment.

Let There Be Light

One of the best ways to make a room look larger than it is is to bring in as much light as possible. Drape your windows so that they allow plenty of sunlight to beam through.

Ideally, you should go for something lighter rather than something darker. In addition to draping your windows in something that allows plenty of light, you should also clean your windows regularly. All that buildup can start to affect the amount of light that enters your apartment.

Use Multipurpose Furniture

Since you’ve only got so much space to work with, it helps to fill your home with as little furniture as possible. One of the best ways to do that is to decorate your apartment with furniture that can double for multiple purposes.

For example, many people find that a couch that doubles as a bed is especially helpful for smaller apartments. You can also consider folding tables that can easily be stored away against the wall.

If you don’t have much closet space, then you can keep your things in a trunk that also doubles as a chair or coffee table.  There are all sorts of creative ways to make your furniture work for a smaller space if you put your mind to it.

If you allow your imagination to run free, you’d be surprised at the amounts of small-space living solutions that are inside of your head!

Remove Doors

If there are doors throughout the house that take up a considerable amount of room when you open them, you may want to consider removing them altogether. If possible, you may want to ask your landlord if they can store them. In the place of the doors, you can hang a curtain.

Resist Clutter

One of the fastest ways to find yourself with an apartment that feels even smaller than it is is to allow clutter to build up. It’s important that you try to clear all floors and surfaces as often as possible. Doing so will ensure that you don’t start feeling like you live in a hoarders episode!
